Huerta Colibrí Tours
Huerta Colibrí offers tours of the grounds for groups interested in learning about organic gardening, keeping an orchard, permaculture practices, sustainable living and ecological lifestyles.
Tours can be scheduled using the contact form on the website. We ask for a week of advanced notice though exceptions can be made. Tour types are listed below. Please indicate what your group will be interested on the contact form.
Please plan on arriving on time for your Huerta Colibrí tour! We are happy to meet groups who respect the space and the lives of the people living on the ranch!
Remember that Huerta Colibrí is a non-smoking location.
Tours can be provided in English or Spanish.
Tour Option 1: Huerta Colibrí Introduction
Cost: $50 pesos MXN per person (or $5 USD per person). Minimum of 4 people.
Length: 1-1.5 hours
- Learn about the ecological systems: solar panels, solar hot water heating, solar cooking, wood-fired cooking, rain-water collection, and composting toilets.
- Overview of the gardening and orchard techniques of Huerta Colibrí
- Overview of the eco-construction techniques including straw bale building, adobe, and cob.
- Walk of the premises to identify plants
Tour Option 2: Huerta Colibrí Introduction, including lunch
Cost: $100 pesos MXN per person (or $10 USD per person). Minimum of 4 people.
Length: 2-2.5 hours
- Option 2 covers the same tour as Option 1, but we'll end with a group meal. The entire group will be served the same community meal. Groups may choose between a variety of meal options, and vegetarians/vegans are happily accommodated.
Tour Option 3: Huerta Colibrí Introduction, Bosque Village introduction, including lunch
Cost: $150 pesos MXN per person (or $15 USD per person). Minimum of 4 people.
Length: 4-4.5 hours
One week advanced notice is required. Tour groups must be on time for starting at Huerta Colibrí at 11:00AM!
After the introduction tour to Huerta Colibrí, a guide will walk your group to the Bosque Village, an ecological retreat center. Please bring walking shoes as the trail is about 1km each way.
- The Bosque Village tour includes an overview of the sustainable energy systems of the Bosque, as well as a talk about human permaculture.
- Lunch will be at the Bosque Village. Bosque lunch's are shared among guests and residents, and are always vegetarian. Special diets can be accommodated with prior notice.
